How Gynecomastia Works

Dr. Reilly will first meet with you for a consultation. He’ll explain exactly what the surgery entails and go over your goals with you. Expect to be treated with compassion and respect throughout the process.

On the day of your procedure, you’ll receive appropriate anesthesia (local or general according to your preference). Dr. Reilly will then perform liposuction of fatty tissue. He might also remove excess skin and glandular tissue, if necessary. After the unwanted tissue is removed, Dr. Reilly will sculpt the skin around your chest to produce a flatter, more muscular profile.

At this point, you’ll be placed into recovery. You’ll received detailed aftercare instructions as soon as you are ready and will be sent home to heal. During the following days and weeks, you’ll see your chest become smaller and flatter, giving you improved self-confidence.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for the procedure?

Men who are unhappy with large, overly feminine breasts are generally candidates for gynecomastia surgery. As with all surgeries, there are some caveats. You should not be planning to lose a large amount of weight after your surgery. Your condition also should not be caused by a medical condition or certain medication. If it is, you should consult with your primary care provider before considering this surgery. Rest assured, however, that Dr. Reilly will go over all the risks and benefits of this surgery with you, so you know whether it’s the right choice for you.
Will this procedure leave scars?

All incisions leave scars, and Dr. Reilly will have to make incisions as part of the surgery. However, he’ll do everything he can to make sure your scars are as small and discreet as possible.
What’s the recovery like after the surgery?

Dr. Reilly will send you home with a detailed care plan after your surgery, so you know what to do, what not to do, and what “tips and tricks” you should follow for a faster and smoother recovery. While you should take it easy for a few days, you’ll be able to shower a day or so after your surgery. If you have a desk job, you should be back at work in five to seven days.
