How It Works

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to revitalize the appearance of the midface and lower face. Jowls, deep creases, drooping cheeks, skin laxity, and other cosmetic concerns can be resolved with this popular facial plastic surgery. Unlike non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments, a facelift can provide dramatic improvements and results that last a decade or more.

Before your facelift, Dr. Reilly will meet with you for a one-on-one consultation. A physical examination will be performed in New Haven to check your compatibility for the surgery. He’ll go over your concerns with you and carefully note the structure of your face. Dr. Reilly will also review your medical history to learn about any prior surgeries, underlying conditions, and current medications. Together, you’ll decide if a facelift is a right procedure for you or if you might be better served with another procedure or procedures.

  • How do I know if I’m a candidate for the procedure?

If you’d like to look almost a decade younger, you could be a candidate for a facelift. You should also have deep creases in your nasolabial folds, jowls, sagging cheeks, or loose skin around the neck. If you would like to look younger but don’t have these features, Dr. Reilly can work with you to find procedures that will give you the youthful appearance you’re looking for. Candidates must be in good overall health, with no underlying conditions to complicate healing. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker. However, smokers may still be candidates if they agree to abstain, as directed by Dr. Reilly, for a period of time before and after surgery.

  • Will this procedure leave scars?

A facelift will require incisions, and incisions always leave scars. Rest assured, however, that these incisions will be discreet. Dr. Reilly might place the incisions above your hairline at your temple or under your chin, meaning the resulting scars are unlikely to show.

  • What’s the recovery like after the surgery?

Dr. Reilly will give you detailed plans tailored to your particular procedure. You’ll want to take it easy for a couple of days to let any bruising or swelling from the surgery subside. You should be able to get back to work in ten to fourteen days, though if you have a physically demanding job, you might have to wait longer.

  • How much will the surgery cost?

Because each surgery is tailored to the patient’s individual goals, costs vary from patient to patient. You can discuss the cost with Dr. Reilly’sstaff at your initial consultation. Rest assured that there are many payments and financing options available.
